Our monthly meeting will be held a week late, on Sunday April 18. It is very important that everyone be there, as this is the last meeting before the chase and is only a little more than a week before we all meet in Kansas City. The 2010 Chase is almost upon us. We have some new things going on that we want to share with you. We will be streaming live video feeds on the home page whenever we are on something interesting. If we are on a tornado, it will be broadcast live. To be notified to tune in to our website, join Twitter and add us to follow our Tweets. We are currently looking for a new laptop to use with the Baron Mobile Threatnet. If you have a Windows based laptop that you would like to donate to a good cause, please contact us! We are a 503(c) not-for-profit organization and your donation will be tax-deductible. Thanks for your support! We would like to welcome four new members and bid farewell to two members. First, we must bid farewell to John Diel and Liana Sain. We all appreciate the opportunity to get to know them and hope that our paths cross in the future somewhere, hopefully on a very productive chase. Barry Boyce works for the American Red Cross and joined MESO a few months ago. His qualifications and knowledge will prove to be a valuable asset to our team. Mike Bates is from Windsor, CO and is a survivor of the wedge tornado that hit there in 2008. He has experience as an IT professional and amateur radio operator. We look forward to using his knowledge on the chase. Sue Malena is a special needs teacher in Kansas City, MO and has been our version of ‘Aunt Meg’ for a few years. She has provided a home base for our annual field trip to the Great Plains. Bryce Hawkins-Fisher is our newest member who hails from Darwin, Australia. Brian is a Registered Nurse and has been chasing storms for 9 years. He has provided footage for The Weather Channel in Australia. His chasing experience will be an asset. This is an exciting time for MESO as we take on new talent and constantly change into something hopefully better able to serve the community-at-large. We are working on some updates for the site. So keep checking back to see what’s new and improved. And best of all- It’s all free! Team MESO is going live this year. Add Meso Live to your favorites list and check back often because we will be going live to work out the bugs before the chase in May. We will be chasing other weather events until then. We just revamped the library and have added a new article for EMS personnel and have updated and converted some of our articles that were in Adobe Acrobat format. We are still updating so check it out and check back often. Because tornado season is now here, we have updated our Tornado Safety article and put it online. Last year was one of the deadliest tornado seasons on record and we want to try to get information out to everyone on how to be prepared and stay safe in the event of a tornado. MESO’s twelfth annual chase is scheduled to begin on May 2. We will be meeting in Kansas City, MO ready to hit the ground running. We hope that this year will be productive and that we can learn more about these fascinating storms and how people can stay safe. Bookmark our website and keep checking back for updates. We’ll keep you posted as things progress. Over on the right hand side below the Paypal button you will find a link for the latest information from the Storm Prediction Center in Norman, OK . The feed constantly updates so you can just hit the refresh button on your browser to see the current status. You can also enter your city and state or zip code in the form below there to get local conditions and the forecast for anywhere in the US from the National Weather Service. The products on our Weather Feed page are the SPC Outlook, Mesoscale Discussions, and current watches and warnings. Click any of the links on the page to be taken to the SPC’s website for more information. We hope that you find this feature useful! |
